Quick answer

The M4 is a documented Assault rifle using 5.56×45 mm ammunition. Its recorded access gate is later and more expensive than the AK74 gate, so the important question is whether the rifle, ammunition and supporting equipment improve a role you already perform. Confirm the current vendor values before paying a permanent unlock.

Reaching the Assault level only opens the next decision. The one-time access fee and the per-deployment purchase remain separate, and neither includes magazines, ammunition, armor or medical items.

Ammunition and equipment

Start from the M4 customization screen and use only the magazine, ammunition and attachment choices displayed there. The recorded ammunition family is 5.56×45 mm. A shared caliber does not make every rifle magazine interchangeable.

Treat magazine, optic, muzzle and furniture slots as separate compatibility checks. Open the M4 in the current customization screen and select each supported part there before buying it; a matching caliber or familiar part name alone is not enough.

When to consider it

The M4 is a later Assault progression target for a player who wants a configurable general-purpose rifle. Consider it only after a cheaper kit can consistently reach and support the objective. Spending the permanent access payment while leaving no money for repeated deployments undermines the reason to unlock it.

A close optic and modest magazine plan suit mobile infantry; higher magnification and extra ammunition increase cost and weight. Choose the task first and test the current handling rather than assuming real-world M4 performance.

Compare another option

The AK74 has an earlier recorded gate and uses a different ammunition family. Free recruit rifles and the T-21 remain lower-cost choices in the full weapon roster. Compare what you can field repeatedly, not only the price printed next to the gun.

For a complete purchase order, continue to ammunition, attachments and loadouts.

Data version and sources

Official changes take priority and are tracked in the Steam announcement archive. The itemized price, access, weight and caliber fields are versioned gameplay records reviewed on September 16, 2026 and should be checked against the current M4 vendor entry.
