Before your first match
WARDOGS is a 100-player, three-team combined-arms FPS built around a moving Control Zone and persistent cash. Install the owned Early Access game through Steam, finish the client update, choose a server with a suitable region and confirm that friends are joining the same server and faction. The old Playtest client is not the current retail installation.
Before deploying, learn four HUD elements: your persistent balance, the current objective, your carried inventory and the status of nearby teammates. You do not need to understand every weapon or vehicle before the first match; you need one useful job and a way to reach it.
Buy for one useful task
Every new account starts with $10,000. A safe first kit uses an available starter weapon, compatible loaded magazines, a small supply of loose ammunition, basic protection and medical items. Keep a cash reserve so one failed deployment does not force a completely different plan.
Use this purchase order:
- Choose an accessible primary weapon.
- Add a backpack or storage item before buying spare magazines.
- Build at least one ready magazine through the weapon’s ammo interface.
- Add medical items and protection required for the task.
- Add optional optics, grenades or tools only after the kit works.
- Review total price and weight before deploying.
A post-launch PC Gamer beginner guide uses two spare magazines, several bandages, a sight and one role tool as a practical baseline. Treat that as a checklist rather than a mandatory build: a hammer, binoculars or launcher only earns its space when it supports the job you chose. The same guide documents the vendor's Rebuy Last Loadout action and the separate Loose Ammo tab.

01 Rebuy before changing the cartThe vendor overview exposes Rebuy Last Loadout before another purchase is made. Open it first, remove anything the next task does not need, then check the new total.

02 Add matching loose ammunitionUse the Loose Ammo tab after selecting the weapon and magazines. Match the caliber, confirm backpack space and keep at least one loaded magazine ready before deployment.

The loadout guide turns this sequence into role-based examples. The reload guide explains why loose rounds are not a ready magazine.
Reach the objective
WARDOGS places three teams on a large battlefield, but scoring is decided inside the active Control Zone. The team with the most players in the zone earns points, and the first to 100 wins. Read the map and objective marker before accepting a ride or driving away from base.
Walking the whole distance wastes time. Use a team transport, ask a pilot for the destination or drive a low-cost vehicle with passengers. Tell the driver where you need to go and leave the vehicle at a place where it can move again. The Control Zone guide covers scoring, Hot Zone incentives and objective rotation.
Community launch guides consistently recommend waiting briefly for a transport helicopter instead of committing to a long solo drive from headquarters. That advice depends on route and server conditions, but the decision rule is sound: compare the vehicle's travel time, purchase risk and passenger value with the next available team lift.
Help someone stay in the fight
Useful support actions earn cash and keep the team present: reviving, transporting friendlies, spotting, supplying a position and contesting the objective. Stay close enough to help teammates, but avoid crowding the same exposed doorway or vehicle. Voice chat is useful for destinations and warnings; nearby enemies may also hear proximity communication.
If a teammate goes down, clear the immediate threat before reviving. If you are down, give nearby players time to respond instead of treating the first knock as an automatic respawn. Check the current revive prompt and inventory because medical tools and their access can change during Early Access.
Adjust after a failed deployment
Identify the failure before buying again:
| Symptom | Check first | Useful adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Reload produced an empty magazine | Ready magazines and loose ammo | Refill magazines behind cover |
| Arrived after the fight moved | Current zone and transport route | Ask for the active destination |
| Kit was unaffordable | Unlock fee versus deployment cost | Use a starter weapon and keep a reserve |
| Died alone | Squad position and revive access | Move with another player or vehicle |
| Vehicle achieved nothing | Crew, passengers and destination | Buy only after agreeing on the job |
A more expensive gun rarely fixes a route, coordination or ammunition problem. Change the failing part of the plan and keep the parts that worked.
Choose your next briefing
Read Money and Cash Economy to protect the persistent balance, Weapons to understand the armory, Vehicles for transport and Playing With Friends for server coordination. Official match rules and the starting balance are documented on WARDOGS on Steam.
A first match is successful when you learn the purchase loop, reach the active area and complete one useful action. Kills can help, but they are only one way to contribute to the team and fund the next deployment.
